U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday pardoned two turkeys, namely "Peas" and "Carrots", in an annual White House tradition for the coming Thanksgiving holidays.
在特赦仪式上，特朗普说，感恩节是美国传统节日，今天也要延续传统，由总统来特赦火鸡。
"Thanksgiving is a time of great American traditions and today we continue a very special one when a lucky turkey gets a presidential pardon," Trump said at the pardon ceremony.
“被总统赦免的火鸡是非常幸运的，我从未见过如此漂亮的火鸡。”特朗普在白宫玫瑰园中举行的赦免仪式上对着“豌豆”说。
"That turkey is so lucky. I've never seen such a beautiful turkey," Trump said of Peas.
“不幸的是，‘胡萝卜’拒绝让步，要求重新计票。”特朗普此番言论暗指上周的佛罗里达州选举。
"Unfortunately, Carrots refused to concede, and called for a recount," the president joked, referring to the vote recounting of Florida gubernatorial and Senate races last week.
按照传统，美国每年会有一家火鸡农场受邀向白宫提供两只火鸡，民众可以在网上投票选择有幸被赦免的“幸运者”。今年共有约５万网民参与投票。根据投票页面显示，两只火鸡均获得50%的选票，可见票数相差无几。
白宫没有公布最终投票结果，只是宣布“豌豆”获胜。
After the votes were tallied, Peas earned the honor of 2018 National Thanksgiving Turkey.

Peas and Carrots arrived in Washington, D.C., on Sunday from South Dakota, where they were raised. Upon arrival in Washington, Peas and Carrots got some rest at The Willard Hotel, adjacent to the White House grounds, ahead of the pardoning ceremony. They will spend retirement at a farm in southwestern Virginia after being pardoned.
